Tuskers Roll!

Tuskers over the Locos 29-15. UFLfan was pretty close on that prediction. Yay...I'm 2-1 in my UFL picks thus far.

Next game: Sentinels play the Redwoods Oct 17th in San Francisco. I would pick the Sentinels if they were playing anywhere in the East, but experience tells us that east coast teams traveling to the west can struggle. I pick the Redwoods by 7 to continue the Sentinels slide to last place.

Week 2 of UFL Action!!

Tomorrow sees the Tuskers take on the Locomotives in the Locos home stadium in Las Vegas. It's at 6 PM PST (so, like 9 EST) on VS.

This is a battle of the UFL's two unbeatens, so someone goes to 2-0 and someone drops to .500.

UFLfan is picking the Tuskers to pick up the win. The Locos looked great in week 1 against the Redwoods, but the Tuskers were dominant against the Sentinels and there is no reason to expect any less.

I haven't checked the betting lines yet to see who Vegas favors. So far Vegas is picking 100% for UFL games.

New York Sentinels Vs. Florida Tuskers UFLFan Recap

Well, UFLfan is 1-1. I picked right in the Redwoods/Loco game, but I was WAAAY off in the Sentinels/Tuskers game.
To be fair, when I made the pick, the starting QB for Florida was not Brooks Bollinger. Had I know that, I might have picked differently. He lit it up.
Final Score Tuskers 30, Sentinels 17.
I was right about one thing. I predicted Tatum Bell would have a big year in the UFL and if last night was any indication, I was right about that. Tatum looked great.
Next game is Thursday night at 6:00 PST (so that's 3:00? for all of us East Coasters). On Versus, Las Vegas Locos versus Florida Tuskers. Couldn't have scripted it better. The leagues two undefeateds will play against each other.
My early pick, after watching the game last night is Tuskers by 7.

New York Vs. FLorida Tuskers online tonight!!!

The New York Sentinels are taking on the Tuskers right now...not on TV though, but you can check it out live online

Right here.

You'll have to download Microsoft bluelight, but it's worth it.

Half time update - Tuskers over the Sentinels 14-13. Sentinels were in control early and it should be 14-7 in favor of the Sentinels. We picked the Sentinels to win and I am sticking by it. They'll come out ready to kick some bootie in the second half!!!

Second UFL Game

Tomorrow (Saturday October 10th) the New York Sentinels take on the Florida Tuskers. I can't catch this one. It's on HDnet and not the Versus network. I am so in the Dark Ages that I don't even know what HDnet is, let alone how one gets it.

It won't keep me from making a pick for the game though...New York by 14. 21-7.

Sorry Tuskers. Too much confusion at QB for my taste.

The Season is here!

UFL Access talks about the start of the season. I'm thrilled it's here. I'll be watching tonight when the Las Vegas Locos take it to the California Redwoods. UFL Access has some predictions for how the game will go.
Vegas says that the Locos are 7 point favorites. Personally, I am picking the Locos to win by 3 touchdowns. I think the game goes 31-7 or something like that.

We'll see.

Darrel Hackney as starter in Orlando?

The Orlando Sentinel (newspaper in Orlando - not to be confused with the New York Sentinels) published this article indicating Darrel Hackney may have a shot as starter for the Orlando Tuskers.

I assumed Craig Nall would be the starter with his NFL pedigree and what I have seen of him in his professional career. The Orlando Sentinel makes a pretty good case for Hackney though. Sounds like some Jamarcus Russel comparisons. Jamarcus has not been superlative in the NFL, but he does play for the Raiders after all.

This will be interesting to watch as it unfolds closer to kickoff of the 2009 season.

Great article about the UFL

Just read a great article about the UFL. Coverage like this affirms my opinion that this league definitely stands a chance!

I see scrimmages are coming up. I can't wait to see more.

After reading the article, I am wondering if my original prediction of Cecil Sapp as league rushing leader is off the mark. Sounds like Tatum Bell is the real deal as well.

Tatum always did well for me in Madden on the Xbox.

Great story!

Joey Madrid signs with Florida.

Who? Last played in 2007 at Colorado State. It's the kind of story you love to hear. Guy comes out of college and gets some attention from the pros, but doesn't make it. He's installing Alternative Energy products and working like a dog (that is to say he's working like the rest of us) and suddenly, a phone call from a former Rams coach who is now with the Tuskers. A few days later, Joey is a Tusker.

Joey Madrid is 6'2" and weighs in at 280. He has signed to be the long snapper. I know being the long snapper takes some skills so hopefully this is the case of finding the right man for the job.

It sounds a bit like an XFL scenario, however. The UFL bills itself as "where future stars come to play" and I so want that to be true. I hope it doesn't turn out to be "where the people who can't land anywhere else come to play". Then again, would that be so bad?

Everyone loves Minor League baseball. Maybe this is a bit like Minor League Football. It's more professional than the semi-pro leagues that manages to hang on and even have some fan following. One gripe I have about minor league baseball is that I never know who the players are. Maybe the UFL will be able to retain some talent.

Anyway you cut it, it's a great story and I am thrilled for Joey.

By the way, "Joey Madrid" is a great football name!
