California Redwoods VS. New York Sentinels

First off...Mike McMahon!!!! I remember this guy at the Lions. I always thought he was awesome. A running and throwing threat. I was thrilled to see him on the field for California. He was drafted back in 2001 so he is starting to show some age. Still, this is his first game in 2 years (he last played in the CFL) so I'll reserve judgement. He looked sharp, but also made sme poor decisions and made a couple of bad throws. Still, the Redwoods were dominant and won the game 24-9.
I had them picked to win, but not by that much. New York was good against the pass early on, but the run gouged them pretty bad. After that, the pass got going off of play-action plays and New York was never really back in it.
New York did have some good returns on kickoffs, showing some promise on special teams. Late in the game, though, when desparation set in, it felt like I was watching a team in NFL pre-season football.
On a completely separate note, the game did not look too well attended. I hope that picks up, Ticket prices are pretty cheap (starting between $7-10). I have no idea how ratings have been. I think the first week was highly watched. I don't know about after that. I have watched the games on HDnet from the UFL website and I think that is a great way to watch a game.

Tuskers Roll!

Tuskers over the Locos 29-15. UFLfan was pretty close on that prediction. Yay...I'm 2-1 in my UFL picks thus far.

Next game: Sentinels play the Redwoods Oct 17th in San Francisco. I would pick the Sentinels if they were playing anywhere in the East, but experience tells us that east coast teams traveling to the west can struggle. I pick the Redwoods by 7 to continue the Sentinels slide to last place.

New York Sentinels Vs. Florida Tuskers UFLFan Recap

Well, UFLfan is 1-1. I picked right in the Redwoods/Loco game, but I was WAAAY off in the Sentinels/Tuskers game.
To be fair, when I made the pick, the starting QB for Florida was not Brooks Bollinger. Had I know that, I might have picked differently. He lit it up.
Final Score Tuskers 30, Sentinels 17.
I was right about one thing. I predicted Tatum Bell would have a big year in the UFL and if last night was any indication, I was right about that. Tatum looked great.
Next game is Thursday night at 6:00 PST (so that's 3:00? for all of us East Coasters). On Versus, Las Vegas Locos versus Florida Tuskers. Couldn't have scripted it better. The leagues two undefeateds will play against each other.
My early pick, after watching the game last night is Tuskers by 7.

First UFL Game!

It was a doozy! UFL access has a good write up on the game. Your UFLFan site picked the winner correctly. Las Vegas over California by a score of 30-17. I was a little off on the California score, but what can I say, Denny Green had them looking better than I expected.

It was good football. There were some boneheaded errors, but it is the first game these guys have played in a long time (in most cases). Losman looked great in my opinion and Shane Boyd was stunning, especially when he got outside the pocket and scrambled a bit.

I hated to see a guy go down with a concussion in the first game, but fortunately they played it safe and took him out so they could evaluate him. Modern medicine knows that all those concussions are terrible for the players, so I applaud the UFL for being ultra-conservative on those things.

Great game. Hope you didn't miss it. If you did, watch the Versus network for the next game.

The Season is here!

UFL Access talks about the start of the season. I'm thrilled it's here. I'll be watching tonight when the Las Vegas Locos take it to the California Redwoods. UFL Access has some predictions for how the game will go.
Vegas says that the Locos are 7 point favorites. Personally, I am picking the Locos to win by 3 touchdowns. I think the game goes 31-7 or something like that.

We'll see.

Starting QBs for our four teams.

The starting QBs for the 4 UFL teams look like this:

  1. California Redwoods: Shane Boyd
  2. Florida Tuskers: Craig Nall
  3. Las Vegas Locomotives: JP Losman
  4. New York Sentinels: Quinn Gray

Four names I recognize. Some you might as well. All are definitely ballers of skill. Personally, I can't decide who I think is the "best". If I were forced to rank them right now without the benefit of a UFL season, I would say they line up like this: Craig Nall, JP Losman, Quinn Gray, Shane Boyd.

We'll know in about a month.

Shane Boyd

Shane Boyd spent last Thursday at Larry Fitzgerald's house watching the NFL premiere. It was almost 4 weeks to the day before Shane will take the field as the quarterback for the California Redwoods. Shane is the former QB for the University of Kentucky. He's bounced around the NFL some (having first been drafted by my own Tennesee Titans). I am ready to see him on the field slingin' the rock!

Click his name in the title for the interview.

I wonder who is more excited about the upcoming UFL season? Me or Shane?
